Biography

Jeroen Leijten is an Associate Professor at the University of Twente. He is specialized in biomedical microtechnologies and is passionate about integrating innovative micromaterials and technologies in medical biology, particularly in cell-based therapies and clinical diagnostics. He completed his PhD in Tissue Engineering at the University of Twente and conducted postdoctoral research at KU Leuven and Harvard-MIT, where he became a subgroup leader. He has a visible research profile with strong expertise in tissue engineering, microfluidic technology, organs-on-a-chip, and (stem) cell biology, as well as biomimetic biomaterials. Leijten has authored numerous articles in high-ranked journals including Cell Stem Cell, Nature Communications, Small, Advanced Functional Materials, and PNAS. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including Veni and Vidi grants, as well as ERC Starting grants and several early career presentation awards.
