Biography

Jeroen Ritsema is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan, specializing in seismology and geophysics. His research focuses on analyzing seismic waves to image the Earth's interior, with a particular interest in global scale seismic tomography. Professor Ritsema's work involves modeling regional wave responses and developing mineralogical models of the upper mantle. He utilizes seismic tomography techniques to create 3D synthetic models that help in the global analysis of wave amplitudes and wave focusing in heterogeneous mantle regions. His projects include the NARS-Baja initiative, which undertakes seismic analysis of the Gulf California rift, contributing to our understanding of earthquake mechanisms and geophysical properties.
