Biography

Jeroen Tromp joined the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University in July 2008 as the Blair Professor of Geology and Professor of Applied Computational Mathematics. Before coming to Princeton, he was the Director of the Seismological Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology and a faculty member in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard University from 1992 to 2000. Tromp holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Princeton University (1992), an M.S. in Geophysics from Princeton University (1990), and a B.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands (1988). His primary research areas include Theoretical and Computational Seismology, focusing on topics such as surface waves, free oscillations, body waves, seismic tomography, numerical simulations of 3D wave propagation, and seismic hazard assessment. Tromp has collaborated with notable faculty, including Tony Dahlen, and has published extensively in his field. He is also recognized for his contributions to the literature, including the book 'Theoretical Global Seismology'.
