Dr. Jeroen Van Der Heijden

Biography

Professor Jeroen van der Heijden at the Australian National University is an internationally recognized expert in urban climate governance and regulatory governance. His career spans several prestigious institutions, including Victoria University of Wellington, University of Amsterdam, and Delft University of Technology. Jeroen obtained his PhD in Public Administration with the highest honors in 2009 and holds a Master's degree in Architecture with high distinction from Delft University of Technology. His research centers on the governance approaches that catalyze transitions to post-carbon cities, focusing on large-scale, international projects in urban climate governance. He has been involved in examining effective governance trajectories for climate actions, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and has secured funding from both the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research and the Australian Research Council. Jeroen's notable publications include works on urban sustainability and resilience, as well as roles on editorial boards of leading environmental journals. He also teaches courses on policy governance at universities worldwide and provides consultancy to various government agencies across multiple countries, including Australia, New Zealand, and the European Commission.
