Jerrold Maddox was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1932. He attended Indiana University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1954 and his Master of Fine Arts in 1959. Maddox served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and began his teaching career in 1960 at Wayne State University, where he taught a variety of subjects including humanities, art appreciation, painting, drawing, design, and web design. In 1980, he joined Penn State University, where he taught primarily online until 1995. Throughout his career, Maddox has been an active artist, widely exhibiting his works in painting, drawing, and photography, including presentations at the Museum of Modern Art. He is also an accomplished author and illustrator.
