Biography

Jerry Hacker is an Assistant Professor at the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism at Carleton University. He is a registered architect in Ontario and the founder of hACT, a research-based architectural practice that focuses on critical design ideas. Before founding hACT, Jerry spent 13 years as a senior associate and design leader at the acclaimed firm MBAC, where he explored a variety of architectural themes and received over 30 national and international awards for design excellence. His professional journey has cultivated a deep respect for the intricate relationship between design, architectural technology, construction, and environmental stewardship, which informs his teaching philosophy. He aims to guide students in developing the capacity to craft poetic ideas that materialize into comprehensive design solutions. His research interests have evolved to investigate spatial constructs and the role of architecture in shaping urban environments in response to changing human habitation and the demand for adaptive architectural forms. Jerry has also engaged with seminal architectural figures like Cedric Price, further fueling his explorative approach to the evolving relationship between inhabitants and architectural space.
