Dr. Jerry Junkin

Biography

Jerry Junkin is a highly regarded director and conductor, serving as the Director of the Wind Ensemble and holding the Vincent R. DiNino Chair at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin, where he has been faculty since 1988. He is recognized as one of the world's leading wind conductors, previously holding positions at the University of Michigan and the University of South Florida. As a University Distinguished Teaching Professor, he teaches courses in conducting and wind band literature. Junkin is the Music Director and Conductor of the Texas Wind Ensemble and has guest conducted numerous prestigious ensembles across the globe, including the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia and the Dallas Winds. He is an advocate for public school music education and has conducted All-State bands in forty-eight states and on five continents. An active member of various professional organizations, he has served as President of the Big XII Band Director's Association and has been involved with the American Bandmasters Association. He regularly conducts internationally and is recognized as a Yamaha Master Educator.
