Biography

Jerry Prince is the William B. Kouwenhoven Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, with over 30 years of experience in research and practice. His work primarily focuses on 3-D medical image reconstruction, registration, segmentation, and shape motion analysis. He holds secondary appointments in the departments of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, as well as Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University, and has joint appointments in Biomedical Engineering and Radiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Data Science AI Institute and has contributed significantly through his lab on methods to tag structures in magnetic resonance imaging tests. His algorithms for MR tagging studying cardiac motion have led to the founding of companies including Diagnosoft and Myocardial Solutions. Prince is also known for his work on segmenting the human brain cortex in MR images and improving optical coherence tomography imaging of the retina. His ongoing research interests include developing imaging and image processing methods to study speech pathologies in patients after partial surgical removal of the tongue due to cancer and for characterizing hydrocephalus. He co-founded Sonavex, Inc., a medical device company that develops ultrasound solutions to visualize and quantify blood flow elements during surgery. Prince is a Fellow of several prestigious societies and has served as an associate editor for leading journals. He has received multiple awards, including the National Science Foundation Presidential Faculty Fellows Award and the MICCAI Society Enduring Impact Award.
