Biography

Jeseth Delgado Vela joined Duke University as an Assistant Professor in August 2023. His work focuses on leveraging environmental biotechnology to improve urban water infrastructure. He integrates molecular tools and modeling to understand the interactions and dynamics of microbial communities affecting engineered water treatment systems. Delgado Vela earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Duke, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Howard University. He has received the Ford Foundation Dissertation Award in 2016, been named an Early Career Research Fellow by the Gulf Research Program in 2022, and awarded the NSF CAREER Award in 2022.
