Jesper Riis Christiansen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in Forest Landscape Ecology. His research focuses on understanding the interrelations among soil hydrology, biogeochemistry, and microbial communities, particularly how environmental changes affect the capacity of soils to produce clean water and store greenhouse gases. He is engaged in developing new methods for greenhouse gas detection and exploring applied management practices for climate mitigation. Jesper teaches at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels, overseeing courses in ecosystem hydrology and soil biogeochemistry, and supervising a variety of student projects. His current projects include major research initiatives in Denmark and Greenland concerning methane emissions from subglacial environments and hydrological modeling of lowland soils amid climate change. He holds experience as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia and has supervised numerous Bachelor and Master students. He is actively involved in various teaching responsibilities related to ecology and hydrology.
