Dr. Jesper Sørensen

Biography

Jesper Givskov Sørensen is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Aarhus University. His research focuses on the adaptation of terrestrial invertebrates to environmental stress conditions, particularly the effects of high and low temperatures. He has a strong interest in the relationship between evolutionary adaptation and phenotypic plasticity. Jesper's work often involves exploring phenotypic and genetic trade-offs related to stress tolerance and life history traits that shape adaptation. He also emphasizes the application of thermal biology to enhance the efficiency of mass-reared insects for food. His experience spans population biology, evolutionary genetics, molecular biology, and eco-physiology with a particular focus on environmental stress. He employs a combination of molecular genetics, evolutionary ecology, field experiments, and laboratory studies, utilizing both model and non-model organisms, primarily terrestrial invertebrates. Jesper has numerous projects and publications related to functional genomics and chronic exposure scenarios that drive environmental risks, as well as optimizing insect production for animal feed.
