Jesse Oak Taylor is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Washington. He earned his PhD in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010 and holds both an MA in English from the same institution (2005) and a BA in English, cum laude, from Middlebury College (2002). His research focuses on Victorian literature and culture, with particular emphasis on environmentalism and ecological theory, as well as the implications of industrialization and imperialism in the context of the Anthropocene. His scholarly work has been recognized with several awards, including the English Department Distinguished Teaching Award in 2024 and the ASLE Book Award in Ecocriticism in 2017. He has also received fellowships such as the ACLS New Faculty Fellowship and the Bruce Harkness Award from the Joseph Conrad Society America. Taylor is currently working on a book series titled 'Sign Nature: Explorations in Environmental Humanities' and is a part of the Simpson Center Interdisciplinary Research Cluster on the Anthropocene.
