Biography

Jesse Thomas received his MFA in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis in 2003 and his BFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1993. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Alberta. Thomas actively engages in collaborative projects, including Moment Research Edmonton, which explores the intersections of painting, sound, and interactive projections. His solo exhibitions have been showcased in various cities including Edmonton, St. Louis, Chicago, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Berlin. Notably, his work was featured in a solo exhibition at Zhengzhou University of Light Industry in China, displaying fifty pieces that represented five years of his studio practice. His immersive multimedia artwork was installed at the New Orleans Jazz Museum to honor the tricentennial anniversary of the city's founding. Jesse Thomas continues to contribute significantly to the field of studio art, focusing on painting and drawing techniques in his teachings and research activities.
