Biography

Jesse Tong-Pin Yen is an Associate Professor in the Alfred E. Mann Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical/Electrical Engineering and Doctoral Degree in Biomedical Engineering, both from Duke University. His research primarily focuses on ultrasound systems, particularly the design and development of ultrasonic 2-D array transducers for real-time volumetric imaging. Dr. Yen has been instrumental in the creation of large 2-D array transducers featuring 65,000 elements for imaging targets close to skin surfaces such as the carotid artery, liver, and breast lesions. His current investigations include the design of advanced volumetric ultrasound systems to enhance image quality, the fabrication of innovative 2-D array transducers, and exploring new application domains for volumetric ultrasound imaging. Throughout his career, Dr. Yen has received several accolades, including contributions recognized on the front cover of the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control in 2003 and 2004, and was a student paper finalist at the IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium in 2003.
