Jessica Abbott is a Professor and the Head of the Department of Biology at Lund University. Her research primarily focuses on evolutionary genetics and sex differences, particularly the sexually antagonistic genetic variation that can influence fitness in males and females. Abbott has been engaged in studies investigating sexually antagonistic genes and traits, which offer insights into the maintenance of genetic variation within natural populations. Over the years, she has worked on various model organisms, including Drosophila melanogaster and Macrostomum lignano. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Guelph in Canada and moved to Sweden for a research exchange, later completing her Master’s and PhD in polymorphism in damselflies. After her postdoctoral work at Queen's University Kingston, she joined Uppsala University as a researcher and returned to Lund as an independent researcher. Abbott has received an ERC Starting Grant for her work on sex chromosomes and sexual antagonism and has served as a Senior University Lecturer in evolutionary genetics.
