Dr. Jessica Bishop

Biography

Jessica Bishop is an Assistant Professor in the Discipline of Family Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She began her role in January 2016 and has significantly contributed to the development of low-risk family medicine obstetrical groups and Family Centered Maternity Care initiatives, which enhance training and care for medical learners and patients in Avalon. Her research interests include provision of obstetrics, women's health, breastfeeding medicine, and newborn care. Dr. Bishop serves as the Clerkship Director for the Rural Family Medicine Clerkship, emphasizing comprehensive family medicine training in underserved areas. A native of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, she holds a BSc, MSc, and MD, completing her medical education at Memorial University in 2010. She further trained in family medicine residency at the University of Alberta and has experience working at the University of Calgary, where she gained expertise in low-risk obstetrics before returning to Newfoundland. Currently, Dr. Bishop leads the Family Centered Maternity Care group at the Family Medicine Clinic, where she practices full-scope family medicine, with special interests in family medicine obstetrics, women's health, breastfeeding, and menopause.
