Jessica R. Collier is an Assistant Professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. Her research employs experimental survey methodologies to investigate how media organizations and technology platforms interact in ways that can be both beneficial and detrimental to democracy. Currently, she focuses on how exposure to fact-check content, misinformation, and political memes influences the accuracy of people's beliefs, their levels of polarization, and their tendencies to block or unfriend others online. Collier is also involved in projects aimed at understanding the social and political implications resulting from the absence of traditional local news outlets. She enjoys teaching courses in political communication that evaluate the connections between media, technology, and politics. Her work has been published in prestigious journals such as Political Communication, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, New Media & Society, International Journal of Communication, and Digital Journalism. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Media Engagement at UT-Austin.
