Biography

Jessica Gill is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University, where she leads pioneering research on the biological mechanisms of traumatic brain injuries (TBI). With decades of experience, she has investigated the differential responses of military personnel, athletes, and patients to TBIs, particularly focusing on the mechanisms that underlie varying recovery outcomes. Her work aims to identify biomarkers that can predict which patients are at high risk for poor long-term recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and post-concussive syndrome, ultimately developing effective treatments. Dr. Gill earned her PhD from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she explored the biological underpinnings of PTSD and depression. Throughout her tenure at the NIH, she has held various pivotal roles, including Senior Investigator and Acting Deputy Scientific Director at the National Institute of Nursing Research. She has been recognized for her exemplary stewardship and contributions to research in the field, receiving multiple awards including the prestigious Lasker Clinical Research Scholar Award. As a leading expert in genetics, health behavior, and mental health, particularly in military and veteran's affairs, Dr. Gill continues to shape the landscape of neuroscience and nursing research.
