Biography

Jessica Goodman is an Associate Professor in French at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St Catherine's College. Her research focuses on eighteenth-century literature, particularly how authors create their public image during their lifetime and posthumously. She published the book 'Goldoni Paris: La Gloire et le Malentendu' with Oxford University Press in 2017, which explores the life and career of Italian dramatist Carlo Goldoni in France. Currently, Goodman is engaged in examining Goldoni's afterlives and literary commemoration, with a project that includes a monograph entitled 'Imagined Afterlives Eighteenth-Century France' to be submitted in 2025. She has also co-edited a special issue of 'Early Modern French Studies' that focuses on the concept of posterity in the early modern period. In terms of teaching, she directs undergraduate studies in French at St Catherine's and supervises master's and doctoral students in the field of French literature and culture, with a particular interest in theatre. Additionally, she is active in outreach endeavors aimed at widening access to university education and collaborates on literary translation projects, engaging students in her research.
