Biography

Jessica Hill is an Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in criminology. She obtained her MSc in social psychology with honors from VU University in 2014. Following her master's, she conducted her PhD research at the NSCR in Amsterdam, defending her thesis 'On Road Adulthood' at Leiden University in September 2017. This work focused on desistance processes among young Dutch adults, employing various longitudinal research methods. From 2017 to 2020, she worked at the WODC in The Hague, where she examined reoffending rates in ex-forensic care patients and developed a new method for measuring reoffending in forensic care treatment. She began teaching and conducting research at VU University in August 2020, where she initiated a new research line exploring environmental harm in contexts such as the agricultural industry. In her teaching, Jessica emphasizes empirical research methods related to sustainability issues and teaches courses within the Bachelor’s and Master’s Criminology programs, including evaluation research and statistics. Her current research interests involve understanding limited manure fraud, the nitrate crisis, and developing interventions to combat environmental crime.
