Biography

Jessica Jacobson-Konefall is an Assistant Professor specializing in Canadian Art Theory at the University of Guelph's College of Arts. Her research interests focus on Canadian Indigenous art, Marxist feminism, Critical Theory, Indigenous critical race theory, and poststructuralist theories. Currently, she is involved in a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Development project that examines ecological aesthetics in the context of Treaty 1 and Treaty 3 territories in Manitoba and Ontario. Additionally, she collaborates on a SSHRC Partnership Grant project titled Archive/Counter-Archive, which engages with Anishinaabe artist and cultural worker Angelina Mcleod from Shoal Lake 40 Nation. This project examines contemporary Aboriginal art, particularly through the lens of birchbark scrolls and their relationship with civic and reserve archives. Jacobson-Konefall is also working on several book chapters that explore the relationship between energy resources and contemporary arts in Canada, along with a monograph that focuses on the art of Rebecca Belmore. Beyond her academic endeavors, she is a practicing artist.
