Biography

Jessica Lawrence is a board-certified genetic counsellor specializing in pediatric metabolic, ocular, and general genetic counselling. She graduated from the MSc Genetic Counselling program at McGill University in 2019. Her graduate research focused on the rates of Lynch syndrome in unselected women with endometrial cancer, advocating for universal Lynch syndrome screening in the population. Between 2019 and 2020, Jessica worked as a certified genetic counsellor in Edmonton, primarily in ocular genetics at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Eye Clinic, where she developed expertise in clinical genetics related to inherited eye disease. Additionally, she provided prenatal genetic counselling in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine department and general genetic counselling at the University of Alberta Hospital. In late 2020, Jessica transitioned to the Genomics Lab with Shared Health Manitoba, where she gained comprehensive insights into molecular cytogenetic testing techniques and developed genetic testing guidelines. Since January 2023, she has been a part of the Shared Health Manitoba Genetics Metabolism team, where she enjoys seeing patients from diverse backgrounds with various clinical indications, focusing primarily on pediatric metabolic conditions, inherited ocular conditions, and general genetics. As a student shadowing and volunteer coordinator, Jessica is passionate about coaching and mentoring students in genetic counselling.
