Jessica (Jess) Peters, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University, specializing as a clinical psychologist. Her research interests focus on the biological and behavioral mechanisms underlying the development and exacerbation of maladaptive impulsivity, self-destructive behavior, and interpersonal dysfunction, particularly in relation to borderline personality disorder (BPD) in adolescents and adults. Dr. Peters is currently investigating how typical changes in ovarian steroid hormones during the menstrual cycle can increase vulnerability to emotional dysregulation, including irritability and anger, particularly in individuals suffering from premenstrual disorders. She co-developed the Dimensional Affective Sensitivity to Hormones in the Menstrual Cycle (DASH-MC) framework, which integrates her findings into a transdiagnostic model to enhance understanding and treatment methods for premenstrual disorders. She also engages in extensive research and clinical work as well as supervision and training for LGBTQ+ teens and young adults. Dr. Peters has received significant research funding, including multiple NIMH grants focusing on mental health and psychopathy.
