Biography

Jessica Rapson joined King's College London's CMCI in 2013 as a Reader and Graduate Teaching Assistant. She previously lectured at Royal Holloway and London South Bank University. Jessica holds a BA (Hons) in Critical Fine Art Practice from the University of Brighton and an MA in Cultural Memory from the University of London. Jessica has extensive experience in Collections Management with organizations such as Brighton Museum and the Wallace Collection in London. Her research focuses on cultural memory, politics of commemoration, dark tourism, and the intersection of culture and climate change. She has published a monograph entitled 'Topographies of Suffering: Buchenwald, Babi Yar, Lidice' (Berghahn, 2015) and co-edited collections that interrogate memory across borders. Jessica's work is increasingly concerned with environmental memory and heritage, particularly in the context of racial injustice in the American Gulf States. She co-chairs the 'Transformation Environment' working group for the Slow Memory COST Action, and is involved in various projects that address memory related to climate change. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she has been recognized with a King's Teaching Excellence Award in 2016 and actively engages in shaping innovative teaching practices in higher education.
