Dr. Jessica Smith

Biography

Jessica L. Smith, MD, FACEP, is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and a Clinician Educator at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She serves as the Director of Graduate Medical Education and is the Associate Chief Medical Officer at Rhode Island Hospital. Her career began after graduating from the University of Miami School of Medicine, followed by completing her Emergency Medicine training at Boston Medical Center. Since joining the faculty at Brown EM in 2006, Dr. Smith has held several significant roles, including a decade of service on the CORD-EM Board of Directors, where she has contributed extensively to education and leadership development in emergency medicine. She has received numerous prestigious awards, such as the Inaugural Dr. Jessica Smith EM Resident Hero Award and the ACEP Physician of the Year Award from the RI Chapter. Dr. Smith's primary academic focus is on graduate medical education, professionalism, and patient care in emergency medicine, particularly trauma and critical care. She is also involved in mentoring medical students and faculty, advocating for emergency medicine, and has been recognized for her outstanding clinical teaching. Her research is funded by NIH/NHLBI and focuses on advanced patient care protocols in emergency settings.
