Biography

Dr. Jessie Cameron is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. She serves as the lab director at the Metabolic Disease Lab in Hospital Sick Children (SickKids). Dr. Cameron obtained her PhD from University College London, England, and has been working at SickKids for over 20 years. Prior to her current role, she was a postdoctoral Research Associate in the lab of Dr. Brian Robinson, contributing significantly to mitochondrial disease research in Canada over the past 35 years. Her main research focus is the identification of novel mitochondrial inborn errors of metabolism. She has worked extensively on known mitochondrial disease genes, identifying new mutations and further characterizing established diseases. Her research is closely linked with clinical diagnosis, successfully identifying novel diseases based on clinical phenotypic data and applying knowledge of mitochondrial pathways to experimental techniques. Dr. Cameron has identified patients worldwide with various mitochondrial diseases, including PDP1 deficiency and AGK deficiency, among others.
