Biography

Professor Jessie Ma is an Assistant Professor and Ontario Research Chair in Sustainable Energy at the University of Waterloo. She obtained her PhD in Electrical Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2020, where her dissertation focused on creating a new demand response market and co-optimizing it with traditional energy markets. Prior to her academic career, Jessie worked for decades in the Ontario electricity sector, where she held various roles at Hydro One. Her work there included launching corporate responsibility programs and managing a wide range of technical and business functions. Additionally, Jessie has been a research fellow at the Centre for Urban Energy at Toronto Metropolitan University, conducting research in energy storage, conservation, and reactive power optimization. She also holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto.
