Biography

Jessyca Hutchens is a Palyku woman living and working on Noongar boodja, serving as a Lecturer in the School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Western Australia. She is involved with the Berndt Museum, where she manages teaching and learning initiatives. Jessyca is an art historian, curator, and writer, having previously held roles including Curator at the Berndt Museum and Curatorial Assistant at the 22nd Biennale Sydney. Jessyca regularly contributes to contemporary art publications and is part of an ERC-funded research project titled 'Repatriates,' which explores the intersections of contemporary art and museum collections. She is currently co-curating an exhibition titled 'Black Sky' for the 2023 Perth Festival. As a co-founder and editor of the online journal of artistic research, she also serves on the editorial committee of Un Magazine.
