Biography

Jia Xue joined the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto in 2018 as an Associate Professor, after completing a research fellowship at the JF Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She received her Ph.D. from the School of Social Policy & Practice and M.A. in Statistics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, following her law degree from Tsinghua University Law School in China in 2011. Jia is the founding director of the Artificial Intelligence Justice Lab and is affiliated with the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society. Her research focuses on applying computational AI approaches to examine intimate partner violence, sexual assault, address biases in AI, and studying rape myth culture and school bullying in Chinese societies. Her work has been published in scholarly journals including the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Journal of Family Violence, and American Journal of Public Health. Jia's research has received funding from various prestigious grants such as the Connaught New Researcher Award and the SSHRC Insight Development Grant.
