Dr. Jian Bo Yang

Biography

Jian-Bo Yang is a Professor and Chair in Decision System Sciences at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on evidential reasoning, probabilistic inference, multiple criteria decision analysis, data analytics, multiple objective optimization, and decision support systems. He is also known for his work in intelligent modeling, simulation prediction, risk, safety, security analysis, and performance evaluation. Professor Yang has led 49 major research projects funded by various bodies in the UK, EU, China, and the USA, with a total funding value of £3.78m, including 17 projects funded by EPSRC and ESRC totaling £1.97m. He has an extensive publication record with around 177 journal papers, 4 books, 23 book chapters, and 160 conference proceedings. He has designed and developed large software systems like the Intelligent Decision System for multiple criteria assessments, and he teaches courses in quantitative methods, decision analysis, and statistics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He supervises PhD and MPhil students, and has hosted numerous visiting scholars. His research aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on contributing to sustainable development through various research initiatives.
