Dr. Jian Guo Liu

Biography

Jian-Guo Liu is a Professor of Physics and Mathematics at Duke University, with appointments in both departments since 2009. He also serves as a faculty member at Duke Kunshan University since 2023. Liu has contributed significantly to the field of physics, particularly in complex multiscale systems, data assimilation models, and statistical forecasting. His research aims to develop strategies for accurately capturing non-Gaussian probability distributions within these systems. His recent publications highlight his work on various statistical methods, including equilibrium correction iterations and coupled stochastic-statistical equations. He has received multiple grants from the National Science Foundation for his collaborative research on dynamics and models in fluid behavior and aggregation dispersion. Liu completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1990 after earning his Master's and Bachelor's degrees from Fudan University in China. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society for his contributions to the discipline.
