Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Jian Liu. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Jian Liu received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2011, followed by a Master's degree from Beijing Normal University in 2014. He completed his PhD at the University of Western Australia in 2018, specializing in gravitational wave instrumentation. In 2017, he served as a LIGO Fellow at the LIGO Hanford Observatory, where he worked on the new all-bolted pre-mode cleaner project. During his PhD, he also worked as a Junior Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Hannover, Germany, focusing on the commissioning of a 10-meter prototype. Liu is an active member of the LIGO-VIRGO-KAGRA scientific collaboration since 2014 and is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, specializing as a Program Scientist in Instabilities Control at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav). His research interests primarily revolve around gravitational wave instrumentation, particularly in suppressing high-power instabilities, angular instability, parametric instability, and enhancing the quantum performance of gravitational wave detectors. Additionally, he is involved in developing a 2-micrometer wavelength-suspended cryogenic silicon test mass optical cavity at the Gingin High Optical Power facility, which is essential for advancing the next generation of gravitational wave detectors.
