Biography

Jianfeng Lu is the James B. Duke Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mathematics and holds additional professorships in Physics and is an Associate Professor in Chemistry at Duke University. His research spans applied mathematics with a focus on mathematical analysis, algorithm development, computational physics, theoretical chemistry, and materials science, encompassing areas related to machine learning. His current research interests include high-dimensional partial differential equations, generative models, sampling methods, control and reinforcement learning, electronic structure problems, quantum molecular dynamics, and multiscale modeling and analysis. Lu has made significant contributions to the field and has been recognized with prestigious awards, such as the Feng Kang Prize for Scientific Computing from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the IMA Prize in Mathematics Applications.
