Biography

Jiangping Chen is a professor at the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He specializes in interdisciplinary research that encompasses information science, data science, and health informatics. Before joining Illinois in August 2024, he served as the Regents Professor and Chair of the Department of Information Science in the College of Information at the University of North Texas. He founded UNT's Intelligent Information Access Lab, focusing on advanced methods for accessing, interacting with, and analyzing large, distributed, heterogeneous, multimedia, and multilingual information. His professional contributions include numerous publications across various platforms, as well as substantial roles in editorial capacities, notably as editor-in-chief of the Electronic Library for seven years and chairing the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries in 2018. Chen holds a Ph.D. in Information Transfer from Syracuse University and has extensive teaching experience, with courses such as Information Organization Access (IS505OB) currently on his roster for Spring 2026.
