Jianzhu Chen is a member of the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research and a Professor of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as an associate member of the Broad Institute. He is the principal investigator of the Antimicrobial Resistance Interdisciplinary Research Group at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART). Chen earned his Bachelor's degree from Wuhan University in China and his PhD from Stanford University, where he began his immunological research in the laboratory of Leonard and Leonore Herzenberg. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship under Frederick Alt, initially at Columbia University and then at Boston Children's Hospital, supported by the Cancer Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship and the Arthritis Investigator Award. Since joining the MIT faculty in the Department of Biology in 1994, Chen has made significant contributions in the fields of immunology, cancer research, and infectious diseases, utilizing animal models to understand human diseases. His research has received recognition through awards such as the Cheryl Witlock Memorial Prize and the Harcourt General Charitable Foundation New Investigator Award. He is also a co-founder of New Paradigm Biosciences, InnDura Therapeutics, and ARV Technologies, and serves on scientific advisory boards for several organizations.
