Biography

Jiaoyang Jiang is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, specializing in the field of protein glycosylation and its implications in biology and disease. His research is primarily focused on understanding the mechanisms and functions of a specific type of protein glycosylation known as O-GlcNAcylation. This modification plays a crucial role in regulating a variety of cellular processes including transcription, translation, and signaling, similar to protein phosphorylation. The aberrant regulation of O-GlcNAcylation has been identified in diabetes and other challenging diseases; however, the underlying mechanisms that govern its dynamic regulation remain largely unknown. Dr. Jiang's research group is actively developing innovative tools to characterize the functions of O-GlcNAc cycling enzymes, namely OGT and OGA. These efforts include designing new strategies to detect, quantify, and manipulate the levels of this modification to promote novel biomarker discovery and therapeutic interventions. Ultimately, Dr. Jiang aims to leverage his expertise in protein glycosylation to accelerate the investigation of mechanisms relevant to drug development efforts targeting diabetes-related diseases.
