Biography

Jie Gao received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, in 2009 and 2014, respectively. Before joining Carleton University, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow, research associate, and assistant professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Waterloo, and Marquette University in the U.S. Her research interests include 5G and 6G networks, machine learning in communications and networking, Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial IoT, network virtualization, digital twins, Artificial Intelligence (AI), network security, and satellite UAV networking. Jie has received multiple awards, including the IEEE OJVT Paper Award in 2025 and the IEEE Outstanding Service Award in 2024. She has a strong background in various research areas and has contributed significantly to the field through activity as an editor and in conference organization roles. She is actively involved in leading research on machine learning applications in wireless communications and networking and has served as a chair and co-chair for various prestigious workshops and conferences.
