Biography

Jie Pan obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physics Acoustics from Nanjing University, China, and received his PhD in Adelaide. He has conducted postdoctoral research under Professor Colin Hansen and joined the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1991 as a Winthrop Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is also the Director of the Centre for Acoustics, Dynamics, and Vibration at UWA. Professor Pan has authored and co-authored over 300 journal and conference papers, as well as books and eBooks primarily focused on acoustics and control. His consulting work spans various industries including shipbuilding, hovercraft development, mining, and power sectors throughout Western Australia. He holds several patents that have been successfully implemented in the marine, mining, and power sectors of the region. His research interests include noise analysis and control for aero hovercrafts, vacuum cleaners, friction-induced vibration noise, and acoustics for musical instruments. Additionally, he teaches courses such as MECH4426 – Vibration Sound and MECH2004 – Engineering Dynamics at UWA.
