Biography

Jill O. Barter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is involved in organizing a well-received pediatric course in the pre-clerkship curriculum and has served as the assistant dean of admissions in the Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Barter continues her role as a pediatric intensivist at Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre. She coordinates the pediatric residency teaching program and instructs in advanced pediatric life support courses, monthly resident series in pediatric intensive care medicine, and conducts clinical skills sessions for second-year medical students. Dr. Barter also prepares residents for the Royal College exams and lectures within the pediatrics course. In addition, she contributes to the academic half-days for the pediatric clerkship and has taken on leadership roles in the pre-clerkship promotions committees, including chairing the pediatrics course. Her research interests focus on criteria for the selection of residency programs, patient outcomes, and the implementation of emergency protocols for the initial resuscitation of patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
