Biography

Jill C. Engle is a clinical professor of law at Penn State Dickinson Law. Previously, she served as the director of the Family Law Clinic, which represents clients in domestic violence and family law cases. From 2019 to 2022, she was the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Professor Engle’s scholarship focuses on gender-based violence, economic inequality, international human rights, and racial justice, alongside the practices of legal education. She has extensive experience in teaching law, and she previously worked on public interest issues, including positions with Head Start and the National League of Cities. Engle also worked in private law practice in State College, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., where she taught media law at Penn State. Notably, she was part of the legal team at Morgan Lewis in Washington, D.C., handling pro bono appeals for a Texas death row inmate. Engle has served as a law clerk for the Honorable Neal Kravitz in the D.C. Superior Court and has worked in various commercial law firms in Bethesda, Maryland, and State College, Pennsylvania. Despite her private practice work, she remains dedicated to pro bono efforts, having received the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Pro Bono Advocate Award in 2010. Engle also received the Marshall-Brennan fellowship to teach Constitutional Law in underprivileged high schools in Washington, D.C. She actively participates in numerous national and state committees related to legal education, social justice, and the practice of law, and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
