Biography

Jill Leutgeb received her Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Germany and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience in Norway, under the mentorship of Nobel laureates May-Britt and Edvard Moser. She has been recognized with the prestigious Young Researcher Prize from the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters for her innovative postdoctoral research. In 2008, Leutgeb joined the University of California, San Diego as an Associate Professor in the Neurobiology Section of the Division of Biological Sciences. She is a member of the Center for Neural Circuits and Behavior and is involved in the Traumatic Brain Injury Team at the Kavli Institute of Brain and Mind, UC San Diego. Her laboratory combines high-density electrophysiology with behavioral testing, theoretical modeling, and pharmacological and molecular manipulations to understand the neural basis of cognition and the biological underpinnings of memory health, dysfunction, and disease. Leutgeb's long-term research goals are to develop new therapeutic approaches for restoring memory loss and predicting, intervening, and preventing seizures.
