Biography

Professor Jill Milroy is a Palyku woman from the Pilbara region of Western Australia and serves as the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Indigenous Education at the University of Western Australia. With over 30 years of experience in Indigenous higher education, she has been instrumental in developing programs and services that support Indigenous students through curriculum research initiatives. As a strong advocate for the formal recognition and resourcing of Indigenous knowledge systems, she has served on numerous national policy advisory bodies. In 2011, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her services to Indigenous education. Her key research interests include Aboriginal knowledge and storytelling systems. Together with her mother, she has authored and illustrated children's books, aiming to engage young readers with indigenous perspectives. Through her various roles at UWA, she contributes to shaping the Indigenous Education Strategy and Aboriginal Employment Strategy, providing academic leadership and management for Indigenous matters at the university. Professor Milroy is currently involved in research projects aimed at reducing health disparities and has been part of international collaborations addressing Indigenous health issues.
