I am an urban geographer with a broad interest in housing, planning, urban governance issues, and the relationship between precarity and equity. My research focuses on the geographies of "informal" housing and spatial regulation, as well as everyday planning practices, space, and gender, in the context of Mexico City and Ottawa. I investigate access to land and housing, the concept of the right to the city, and how "formal" planning practices produce territories of "informality." I am currently exploring affordable housing solutions and community land trusts as part of Carleton’s multidisciplinary research project. At Carleton, I have a cross-appointment with the Institute of Political Economy and actively participate in the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program. I welcome graduate students interested in related research topics.
