Dr. Jill Zafar

Biography

Jill Zafar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine and serves as the Clinical Chair of Anesthesiology at Bridgeport Hospital. She has held prominent leadership roles within Yale, including Medical Director of Pre-Surgical Evaluation and Interim Section Chief of Ambulatory Anesthesia. With a strong focus on preoperative optimization, Dr. Zafar has made significant contributions to developing innovative perioperative guidelines that enhance patient care. She previously served at Roswell Park Cancer Institute where she was an Assistant Professor and Director of the Anesthesia Perioperative Evaluation Center. Educated at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine, she completed her residency in Anesthesiology, where she was Chief Resident. Dr. Zafar is dedicated to mentoring women physicians and actively participates in the Committee on the Status of Women in Medicine (SWIM). Her work in anesthesiology is driven by her fascination with pharmacokinetics and a commitment to improve patient outcomes through programs like Enhanced Recovery Surgery. She emphasizes the importance of pre-surgical communication between anesthesiologists and patients, providing guidance on healthy practices leading to quicker recoveries.
