Jim Anderson is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Southampton. He graduated with a BA in Mathematics from the University of Georgia in 1986 and completed his PhD in Mathematics at Stony Brook University in 1991, under the supervision of Prof. Bernie Maskit. His research interests are centered on hyperbolic geometry, focusing on hyperbolic space isometries and Kleinian groups. He has extensively investigated the limit set intersection theorem for Kleinian groups and has been exploring the actions of these groups on higher-dimensional hyperbolic spaces. Additionally, Jim collaborates with Dr. Aaron Wootton from the University of Portland on the signatures of actions of automorphism groups acting on closed Riemann surfaces. Over the years, he has taught various modules in Pure Mathematics, including developing and leading a module on Hyperbolic Geometry. Currently, he teaches MATH3033 Graph Theory. Jim's notable achievements include his contributions to the EPSRC-funded research on counting subgroups in mapping class groups.
