Dr. Jim Dai

Biography

Jim Dai is the Leon C. Welch Professor in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University. His research interests include Applied Probability, with a focus on fluid models, diffusion models, stochastic processes, and reinforcement learning. He studies resource allocations in processing networks that model systems such as semiconductor wafer fabrication lines, communications networks, data centers, and service systems. His work also extends to modeling and optimization in various domains including customer contact centers, hospital inpatient operations, airline yield management, and ridesharing networks. Dai has authored several significant papers and is actively involved in academic service, including chairing the award committee for the ACM SIGMETRICS Achievement Award and serving as a trustee of the Applied Probability Trust.
