Biography

Jim Hopson is a JUNO Award-nominated trombonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and educator based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Recognized as a 'Game Changer' in the music industry by Stir Magazine in 2024, his extensive body of work blurs the boundaries between genres and disciplines. As a dedicated educator, he has taught private lessons and clinics to thousands of young musicians. Currently, he serves as an adjunct professor for the Low Brass Jazz Ensemble at the University of British Columbia's School of Music. In addition to teaching, Jim is a prolific composer, arranger, and orchestrator, with original works featured in numerous albums, TV shows, video games, and films. He is also an internationally acclaimed Alphorn exponent, having recorded albums of original compositions for the instrument, including ‘Generations’ (2018) and ‘en plein air’ (2024), which are available on major platforms. His original compositions have been published by Cherry Classics, IMBrassworks, and Phonos Music.
