Biography

Jim Kokkinakis graduated in 1983 from the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales. He is primarily a clinician with special interests in customization of contact lenses, corneal disease, and myopia control. His interests encompass dry eye disease, ocular therapeutics, and computer vision syndrome, alongside the customization of complex prescription spectacles. Currently, he is an optometric director at Eye Practice in Sydney’s CBD and has been involved in part-time clinical supervision at the School of Optometry at UNSW since 1990, evolving into lecturing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He was appointed Adjunct Senior Lecturer in 2011. From 1996 to 2002, he served as a part-time Clinical & Liaison Optometrist at the Eye Institute, where he was responsible for optometric education programs related to ocular disease and refractive surgery. He has consistent exposure to ocular therapeutics in a clinical setting, particularly in fitting contact lenses for complex corneal conditions. Additionally, Jim is a regular presenter at national and international conferences for optometrists, ophthalmologists, general practitioners, and pharmacists. He has been an active member of several professional organizations since 1998, including the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists, the American Academy of Optometry, and the Cornea & Contact Lens Society of Australia.
