Biography

Jim Plummer is the John M. Fluke Professor of Electrical Engineering, Emeritus at Stanford University. He was born in Toronto, Canada and pursued his BS degree at UCLA followed by MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford. He joined the Stanford faculty in 1978 as an associate professor and became a full professor in 1983. His tenure at Stanford included serving as the director of the IC Laboratory, senior associate dean of the School of Engineering, and chair of the Electrical Engineering Department. He was the Frederick Emmons Terman Dean of the School of Engineering from 1999 to 2014, during which he enhanced the engineering programs and the interdisciplinary collaborations with the medical school. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has authored over 500 journal papers and conference presentations, graduating more than 90 PhD students. His work primarily involves silicon devices technology, encompassing high-voltage ICs, silicon process modeling, and recent advancements in nanoscale silicon devices. Plummer has received numerous awards for his research and teaching excellence and has served on the board of directors for various companies including Intel and Cadence.
