Biography

Jim van Mourik is an Assistant Professor in Private Law at Radboud University. He explores how individuals and businesses can assert and protect their rights in a fair and effective manner, focusing on the role of civil courts and new developments in civil procedure, as well as alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration. His current research investigates mediation in bankruptcy cases, examining the challenges and the dynamics of clashing interests when funds are limited to pay creditors. Jim combines traditional legal analysis with historical, comparative, and qualitative-empirical approaches, which include literature research and interviews with key stakeholders such as trustees, mediators, and judges. He completed his Master’s in Legal Research at Utrecht University with honors and has hands-on experience in alternative dispute resolution and access to justice projects in France and Belgium.
